Bedroom Makeover

I wish I was better at this blogging thing. I promise I will get better okay? Okay.

I can't believe it's 2013! Where has the time gone? I have been wanting to share these pictures for a while but free time has been utterly impossible for me to enjoy as of lately.
However, it's a new year and Derek and I are about to leave on a two week trip!
So before I leave here are some pictures of my bedroom makeover....
Before:
(This isn't really a fair before picture but it's the only one I have. We were in the middle of moving in when I snapped this so excuse the mess!)

The people who lived here before were quite... creative I guess would be the best word. Our house was full of very interesting colors when we first moved in. This room, I would say, was the most mild of them all. The lower half was painted brown with 12 inch gold stripes circling the room. Lovely.

After:
I decided to go with the mustard yellow and gray theme because well those colors just work so well together.
I got most of my pillows off of Etsy (of course). The rose pillow is made by bedbuggs. She is a pretty talented lady!

Here is a front view. My husband is pretty good about allowing me to have freedom in my decoration choices. All he asked was that he could set the books he was reading on the nightstand. So I thought I could make that tiny sacrifice. Ellie just couldn't stand not being in at least one picture.

Here is what I did on my nightstand. The lamp is from the Gold Mine Thrift Store in Sun Valley. If you haven't been and happen to make a trip to Sun Valley, ID I recommend you stop by. Sun Valley is filled with extremely rich people and you're guaranteed to find a good deal when you shop there. The lamp shade is my creation. Let's just say it was a happy accident. I bought the shade from a local D.I. and grabbed some fabric and went crazy with a hot glue gun.

The fabric seen on my night stand and above my bed is actually napkins that I found at Target. I wrapped two shoe box lids with the napkins and put the remaining ones on both of my night stands to spread the pattern out a little more. My bed has a few different patterns going on and I wanted to make sure that the extra pattern above my bed didn't feel random.
The "L" is a wooden letter wrapped in yarn with a handmade rosette outlined by a little twine. The chalkboard was also a DIY. I bought the frame and backing from Michaels. Sprayed the backing with some chalkboard paint and painted the frame.
This little gem took me quite a while. It was when I was first testing out different methods of making the chevron pattern. As you can see it's not exactly perfect but I actually really like it that way. The letters on top are from a scrapbook collection that I painted mustard yellow (minus the happy I hand painted that). I then put a thin coat of mod podge underneath and on top of the letters. This saying is actually what inspired my color combo for the room.

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed my room as much as we do!
Happy 2013 to you:)

Until Next time.... Mrs. Lloyd
